40K Neotube - 4/14/10

I missed 40K Neotube last week because I was on vacation, and actually was driving home that day.  So as I wandered the sometimes desolate landscape that is 40K videos online looking at anything from Dark Eldar tributes, to how to use a spray gun, I found this video that hit last week.  It's several of the voice actors from Ultramarines The Movie discussing the facial capture technology they are using to animate the movie.

Ultramarines the Movie 3D Models, now with Textures

Hot Damn!  No, not the cinnamon schnapps.  The exclamation.  Because the awesome concept art that was fleshed out to greyscale models last week has now been given color and texture.

Dawn of War II/Chaos Rising Patch v2.2 Released

For what it's worth Dawn of War II and Chaos Rising have been patched.  I have personally not experienced any of the bugs that they fix, and I don't play much multi-player.  So this patch isn't a big issue for me...but it might be for you.

The patch will auto-install through Steam, but the details of what is fixed are here.

Ultramarines the Movie Greyscale Weapon Models

The first day back from vacation is always painful.  I like to equate it to a ton of bricks and a ton of Mondays sandwiching me in a crushing death blow that doesn't really kill me but make me wish I was dead.  Thus I would like to personally thank the people over at the Ultramarines the Movie site for making my return to reality a lot less painful with these greyscale models of the weapons that have, until now, been just seen in thoroughly awesome concept art.

The imagery isn't as cool as seeing a new Purity Seal, but it's really helping to show how they are working to flesh out the art from it's 2D conceptual phase to a 3D modeled look.  Plus, and maybe this is just me, but I love the idea that like our beloved miniatures the artwork starts as a gray model.
You can see all the greyscale models in the gallery.

Happy Birthday To Me

Celebrated my birthday at my parents' house in Georgia. I got the new Deff Dread. Oh baby I can't wait to put this bad boy together and have one of my buddies destroy him before he's able to do anything in the battle.

Ultramarines the Movie Character Concept Art - The best Easter gift since Jesus?

Sweet Zombie Jesus.  Character concept art for the Ultramarines Movie.

It's like I've died and gone to 40K heaven, which fittingly works with the Easter joke motif, but seriously,
just look at Captain Severus

40K Neotube - 3/31/10

I recently started reading the Horus Heresy, and I am currently engrossed in Book 2, "False Gods" by Graham McNeill.  I wanted to do something Heresy related but none of the fan made trailers I saw really interested me, so instead I thought I'd feature this cool interview with Graham McNeill

New Forgeworld Website Makes It Easier to Drool Over What I Can't Afford

Forgeworld, maker of super cool stuff that I really want but can't afford, rolled out a newer, easier to look at, easier to navigate website.

Check it out and enjoy, while I empty my couch looking for enough spare change to get something, anything from them.

Post Chaos Rising Musings: The Future of the Blood Ravens

Early on when I started getting into Warhammer 40K, I went through the struggle of trying to figure out which army to play.  Everyone goes through it, and everyone eventually settles on their army for different reasons:  style of play, fluff, and the models to name a few.  For me it was the Orks, the combination of dark humor intrinsic to the race, some kick ass models, and some fun fluff made them the favorite for me.  But while the fluff for the Orks is fun, it’s the epic fluff of the Space Marines and Chaos Marines that wooed me early on.  Part of that were story arcs like the Horus Heresy, but since my entrance into 40K was through Dawn of War, it was also the Blood Ravens.

First a couple caveats.  This article is full of spoilers, so if you don’t want to know what happens in Chaos Rising then I suggest skipping it.  Second, while I like the Blood Ravens, my buddy Steve is obsessive about them in a way that if Gabriel Angelos were a real person he would have to have a Personal Protection Order against Steve.  So, some of the insight into the Blood Ravens is fueled by his own personal mania.  Finally I drew a lot from the White Dwarf article by Graham McNeill about the Blood Ravens, but there are continuity issues that do not necessarily jive with the story from the video games.

More after the jump.

40K Neotube - 3/24/10

I am so entrenched in my nerdiness that sometimes I forget how the rest of the world views me.  To me, the stuff I like is cool, and the people who like the same stuff as me are cool.  I'm just as interested in the stats around my favorite baseball team as I am the stats of my favorite Ork Unit.  I am who I am, and I'm comfortable with that.  Sometimes, however, I feed my deep seeded neuroses and insecurities, and that's where news segments about wargamers can help.  So enjoy a reporter trying to make heads or tails of wargaming, with liberal bits of "The Final Countdown" played to mock, and a lot of weight given to how few girls play.

After the jump, of course
