100th Post Celebration

Back in January 40K Neophyte turned one year old.  I didn't really make a big deal about it because in my mind having a blog for a year didn't really mean anything.  I've had other blogs and websites, and having a blog for a year means nothing if you aren't updating it.  So I let the one year thing slide.  No big deal.  Ooh happy birthday to me and all that jazz.

Today, I consider a benchmark for this site.  This post is my 100th post at 40K Neophyte.  I'm not going to lie, it snuck up on me.  I mean when I only posted 3 times in August, I figured I'd be a while before I got here.  But thanks to all the Chaos Rising and Ultramarines The Movie build up, the posts have been practically flying.  Oh sure I'm not the most regular blogger at times.  Real world concerns and time constraints affect me too, but I'm pretty proud of what I've accomplished in these 100 posts.



When I started the blog, the idea was to create a log of my growing fascination (my wife would call it mania) with Warhammer 40K.  As I stated early on, I was aware of the game, but really came to want to play it when I got into Dawn of War.  Then as other friends of mine were getting into it, it just blossomed from there.  During these 100 posts I've discussed and gotten tips on painting and sealing minis.  I've blossomed from two completed minis to 10 completed Boyz, a Boss Zagstruk who was completed until his arms and legs fell off...twice, a Big Shoota, a Rokkit Boy, five Stormboyz and 10 Boyz in progress.  I've gone from just having a few boyz waiting to be done to all the Assault on Black Reach Orks, an additional 10 AoBR Boyz and a Deffkopta, a Warboss w/bosspole, an Ork Trukk, five Nobz, and a Killa Kan w/rokkit launcha all waiting to be started.

And now it's up to this with so much more to do.

I took part in a 400 point challenge with my Steve and Chris, played my first game when I failed the challenge, and learned quickly that my Orks die much faster and easier than they paint.  We welcomed James and Jason into our gaming circle, and had several painting and gaming parties that I chronicled in these virtual pages.

On the video game front Dawn of War II came out around the time I started this site, and so I was able to write about how I loved what they did to/for the RTS genre.  I've waited with baited breath for Chaos Rising to come out, and can tell you that sleep will be lacking Friday morning after I crack out on Chaos Thursday night.

A lot of other stuff has happened too.  The site has gone through several design changes and tweaks.  I've added a regular feature, and I've picked up followers.  All because of our shared love for this game.

This post has shaped up differently than I planned as I find myself going through old posts.  Oh here's the time I made a funny about how the TV show Heroes would be better if it included 40k, the first time I used the Bob Waaagh! picture (yes "Waaagh!" is spelled wrong, it just makes the picture work better with that misspelling, don't ask me how), and when I started dipping.

Going through the posts reinforces a couple things.  I've come a long way as a 40K Neophyte (see what I did there?), but I have a long way to go.  It reminds me how slow and plodding I am at painting.  Also, man I love this game.

Thanks everybody for visiting my little blog and sharing my love of 40K with me.  I've enjoyed all the comments, assistance, and advice.  I especially want to thank my gaming group Steve, Chris, Jason, and James.  First for letting me write about our battles, and second for the tips, encouragement, Bob Waaagh! (he was all Jason), and fun.

I'm still a new enough to this game, that I have a long way to go before I've earned the right to drop the neophyte title.  Until that day (and beyond), this blog will continue.  Now I need to get back to painting because it's only hours until Chaos Rising drops, and when it does my painting time will drop like a rock.
