With less than a month to go until Chaos Rising is released I thought it would be good to remember the old days of 40K computer gaming. Back in 1993 Electronic Arts released a computer game based on the classic Games Workshop board game Space Hulk. I have never played it, although I'm curious how it was. Anyone know?

Ultramarines The Movie Goodness

More concept art has been uploaded to the Ultramarines Movie Blog. New images include dueling swords, bolter with scope, ammo crates and this heavy bolter.
There is also a guest blog by Nelson from the Games Workshop licensing depart. Nelson discusses the attention to detail that I marveled at when the concept art for the blaster rounds was released.

...what Codex Pictures have managed to do with the movie assets, very quickly, is get the form and feel of the weapons and equipment right (or ‘props’ as I now have to remember to call them!), and then go to town on additional details to add an extra layer of realism. Reference has been drawn from the whole of the Warhammer 40,000 background. Every single asset in the movie goes through the various stages of design, and at each stage we have to think about how to make that individual item as ‘40k’ as we can make it, whether it’s a simple Bolt Shell or a Strike Cruiser.I was seriously not impressed when I heard Codex was doing the movie, but so far I have yet to see anything in the concept art that doesn't have me excited.

Catching Up On Chaos Rising
Posted by
Sean
Looks like I missed some damn cool updates for Chaos Rising. Thank god I'm not a professional blogger, because if I was, well I heard hara-kiri is only one of the most painful ways to die.
First up I missed the mid game multiplayer Chaos units. With Bloodletters and Dreadnaughts and Plague Marines, the Chaos army is shaping up nicely.
Then there was the late game multiplayer Chaos units update. The Predator looks cool, but The Great Unclean One is going to be awesome.
And then there were a couple videos that got released. You can see those after the jump.

Free Army List Form Updated

Sean
I'm not sure if you guys remember, but a couple weeks ago Games Workshop released a free pdf downloadable roster sheet to assist gamers in coming up with army lists.
At the time, since I haven't bought Army Builder, I commented that I liked the form, but wished it was designed to be filled out on the computer and printed. Well my wish has been granted, by me. I took the free form available from GW and added over 300 form fields to allow you to fill it out and print it legibly. I also added in some automatic computing so that the point total will update with each unit/upgrade added. You can get the updated roster form here.
I'm not sure if GW will appreciate the work I put into it, but really I know my penmanship sucks and I wanted to be able to read my army list. Get it while you can, because if I'm asked to pull it I will immediately.

Chaos Rising: Chaos Multiplayer Heroes - Chaos Lord
Posted by
Sean
With March 11 fast approaching, more and more updates about Chaos Rising are being released, at a faster pace. Yesterday we got a look at one of the multiplayer heroes available to the Chaos ranks, the Chaos Lord (who is pictured on the cover artwork for the game).
The Chaos Lord hero is a melee specialist that uses brute force and health draining attacks to crush enemies. By choosing the Chaos Lord, you gain the blessings of the Blood God, Khorne, granting you Bloodletters that spawn at the shrines constructed by your Heretics. These daemons will remain for as long as they have Energy, which drains over time, after which they vanish back into the Warp.More blood for the Blood God. And more Chaos-y goodness for us to think about. Read the whole description at the DoW II community site.

40K Neotube - 2/10/10

A new trailer for Chaos Rising hit over the weekend. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a good source of your recommended daily allowance of Nurgle-y good Nurgle-ness.
Also, its more evidence that March 11 is still too far off for my taste.
The video is after the jump.

New Ork, Space Marine, and IG units

So Games Workshop has updated their Advance Orders page with the Battle Missions book, the Space Marine Venerable Dreadnaught, Imperial Guard Chimera, IG Basilisk, and for the Orks (who are near and dear to my heart) the new Deff Dread (pictured), Killa Kans, and Flash Git with Targeting Squig.
Now, First off I love the new Deff Dread model. Very Orky look, and I love the 4 arms. The Killa Kans look good, but I was partial to their old models so the updates are nice but weren't as necessary. I do like how the Deff Dread doesn't look like a bigger Killa Kan. But, that being said, the Killa Kans need to be in units of 2-3 so having a box that has 3 plastic units versus having to buy them 1 metal model at a time is perfect. And the Flash Git is great. And since we didn't have any of the Flash Gitz models I'm loving what we have here, but having it available only through the GW stores or website is pain in the butt, since I don't have a close GW store and I buy from an independent hobby store.
On the Non-Ork front, the Venerable Dred and the IG tanks look pretty cool as well.

Free Army List Form From Games Workshop

Games workshop has released a free Army List Form as a downloadable pdf file. It's nicely laid out, and well organized, and it's a great tool for people like me that don't use Army Builder.
My only beef is that I wish the pdf was a form with fields so I could type my information into it so that it would be an easier to read document than when I write it by hand. Otherwise, it's a nice document.

40K Neotube - 2/3/10

This week's 40K Neotube finds me only 2 weeks in and already breaking all my personal rules about this series. The concept when I first decided to do this series was highlight a video a week, because there are some pretty neat 40K centric videos out there. While searching for this week's video I stumbled on a great video reference series about the basic rules of 40K. As a newer player I know that a lot of time during a game is spent looking up rules. That's where doremicom has made a wonderful tutorial series on the rules of 5th edition 40k. Hopefully reinforcing what we have read so we can move past rules discovery and on to fun. There are 3 series, and I'm just highlighting Series 1 which is seven episodes long, as well as two correction episodes. And he doesn't even get into the Assault phase or things like wound allocation. Not the video series for recruiting new players, but once they're hooked this is a good place to start to really help them understand the nuts and bolts of the game.

Chaos Rising Update - The Last Stand and Chaos Marine Multiplayer
Posted by
Sean
Last week Relic announced that there will be two new heroes for The Last Stand included in Chaos Rising. The first they announced/profiled is the Hive Tyrant.
I always wondered why the 'Nids were left out of The Last Stand. I mean it's not really a fluff issue since you have Eldar, Orks, and Space Marines working together. But now I see. Those dastardly Relic guys kept their hand back to entice us even more with Chaos Rising.
Well played, sirs. Well played.
Who wants to lay odds that the final hero for The Last Stand is a Chaos Space Marine?
More updates after the Jump.
